Production takes place in Germany. Top precision, tested materials, and thorough quality control – genuine German engineering.
What material are the IARS made from?
IARS are made from skin-friendly (dermatologically tested) and easy-care silicone (free from harmful substances).

How long does production take?
Once your ear impressions have arrived, production typically takes 10–14 business days.
Is taking an impression dangerous or painful?
We work with professional audiologists who have the required know-how and equipment to take a safe and accurate ear impression. The process takes about 15 minutes and is completely painless and harmless.
Usage & Care
Can I hear while wearing the earplugs?
Yes! Our technology ensures acoustic transparency – you can still hear your surroundings. Your sense of balance is also unaffected, as natural pressure equalization is maintained.
How do I clean the earplugs?
Simply rinse under lukewarm water and use mild soap if needed. Do not use alcohol or aggressive cleaners.
How long do the earplugs last?
Thanks to their durable materials and precise fit, our earplugs are extremely long-lasting. However, the shape of your ears can change over time – typically every 5–6 years. You should then get new impressions to ensure continued perfect fit and protection.
What sports are IARS suitable for?
IARS are suitable for all types of water sports, such as surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, stand-up paddling, swimming, kayaking, or canyoning. IARS have not yet been tested for diving.

Why do I need earplugs for surfing?
Repeated contact with cold water and wind can lead to "Surfer’s Ear" – a bony growth in the ear canal. Our earplugs help effectively prevent this condition.
Do the earplugs also protect against water entering the ear?
Yes, they seal reliably and prevent water from entering – ideal for preventing infections and irritations.
What is the condition known as Surfer’s Ear?
The condition known as Surfer’s Ear is a bony growth in the ear canal (auditory canal exostosis). In short, repeated exposure to water and wind causes the ear canal to gradually narrow. As a result, trapped water can’t drain properly, leading to more frequent ear infections. Once the exostosis has developed, surgery is the only remedy. The best way to prevent it is by wearing ear protection.
What is the condition known as Swimmer’s Ear?
Swimmer’s Ear (also called Otitis externa or outer ear infection) is an inflammation of the outer ear, primarily the ear canal, and sometimes the auricle. It is caused by moisture softening the skin inside the ear canal, small injuries, or foreign objects, which can lead to local bacterial infections. Swimmer’s Ear can usually be treated with ear drops. The best way to prevent it is by wearing ear protection.
Warranty & Returns
Is there a warranty?
Yes – we offer a lifetime warranty against material and manufacturing defects. Please note: if the earplugs are lost, we cannot offer a free replacement.
Can I return the earplugs?
As this is a custom-made product, returns are excluded. However, if you experience any issues, we’ll always find a fair solution.

I lost one of my IARS – what now?
Lost IARS can be reordered at a discounted rate through our customer service.
We store your ear impression data for 3 years. If the loss occurs after that period, you’ll need to have new impressions taken through our partner network. Just send an email to info@iars.me.
I'm still waiting for my IARS – what’s happening?
After we receive your ear impressions, production and delivery typically take about 7 business days.
